Terbang seperti Iron Man saat ini mungkin hanya cerita fiksi yang terjadi dalam Film. Tapi, dengan perkembangan teknologi, orang biasa bisa melakukan aksi Iron Man dari ketinggian dekat ruang angkasa dengan baju itu.

Seperti dikutip Dailymail, Sabtu 25 Mei 2013, perusahaan ruang angkasa asal Baltimore, AS, Solar System Express, dan perusahaan desain biomedik, Juxtopia, sedang mengembangkan sebuah pakaian khusus luar angkasa yang mereka sebut RL Mark VI.

Dengan pakaian itu, orang bisa melompat dari orbit luar Bumi. Hebatnya lagi, baju itu nantinya didesain untuk melompat dari ruang angkasa, sehingga bisa mendarat di Bumi tanpa menggunakan parasut. 

Roket sepatu

Dua perusahaan itu meniru pelompat ekstrem, Felix Baumgartner. Pada Oktober tahun lalu, Baumgartner melompat dari atas ketinggian 38.969 meter dari permukaan tanah. Setelah terjun bebas 4 menit 19 detik, ia membuka parasutnya sampai bisa mendarat ke Bumi.

Sebagai uji coba MARK VI, tim dari Solar System Express dan Juxtopia menggunakan dengan cara Baumgartner melompat.

Bedanya, baju MARK VI itu dilengkapi dengan teknologi sky diving dengan mesin aerospikekecil yang menempel di sepatu. Mesin ini semacam roket sepatu.

Mesin inilah yang akan membuat pelompat bisa meluncur, bergerak serta mendarat tanpa bantuan parasut.

Desain baju ini juga dilengkapi dengan fasilitas canggih, kacamata augmented reality (AR). Prinsip kerja kacamata ini mirip dengan Google Glass.

Kacamata itu dapat memberi informasi ketinggian, tingkat akselerasi, lokasi menggunakan GPS, dan radar Federal Aviation Administration, serta data lintasan selama melompat.

Bahkan, perangkat itu dapat menunjukkan denyut jantung, suhu, dan merespons perintah suara dengan menyaring suara mesin serta angin. Canggihnya, kacamata itu juga dapat memberitahu jika ada masalah pada sepatu yang mengganggu proses pendaratan. 

Sayangnya, kacamata ini tidak ada fasilitas mode video seperti Google Glass. Sebagai gantinya, kacamata ini menggunakan teknologi Optical See Through yang sama fungsinya dengan Head Up Display pada pilot jet tempur. 

Solar System Express akan menguji dua metode pendaratan ini. Pertama, akan mencoba metode feet-down, dengan memanfaatkan tendangan mesin aerospike dari ketinggian sekitar 100 meter.

Metode kedua, yaitu cara yang sama digunakan Tony Stark, pemeran utama pada Iron Man, yaitu menggunakan tenaga sayap pakaian yang berfungsi untuk melambatkan lompatan.

Dengan cara itu, pelompat ruang angkasa bisa mengatur posisi tegak dalam ketinggian sepuluh meter di atas tanah sebelum menyalakan pendorong. Dalam uji coba pertama, masih akan digunakan parasut tradisional. 

Selanjutnya, Solar System Express akan menguji metode pendaratan sepenuhnya pada Juli 2016. Dengan uji coba itu, diharapkan pada akhir 2016, baju RL Mark VI bisa diproduksi.

Setahun, Mars Dihantam Asteroid 200 Kali

Planet Mars kini kian populer sebagai alternatif koloni kehidupan manusia di masa mendatang. Bahkan sudah ada perusahaan antariksa swasta asal Belanda, Mars One, yang sudah merancang program tamasya ke planet merah ini.

Program itu kebanjiran peminat, tercatat 80 ribu peminat dari berbagai negara telah mengajukan diri untuk mengikuti misi Mars One tersebut.

Di luar potensi Mars itu, riset terbaru menunjukkan Mars juga menyimpan potensi lain, hantaman asteroid. Laman NBCnews,25 Mei 2013 melansir, rata-rata tiap tahun Mars diserang 200 asteroid.

Meski asteroid yang mengarah ke Mars hanya berukuran 1-2 meter atau sepuluh kali lebih kecil dari meteor yang jatuh di Chelyabinsk, Rusia, tapi bisa berisiko bagi manusia yang tinggal di Mars. Pasalnya atmosfer Mars lebih tipis dibandingkan atmosfer Bumi. 

Peneliti menunjukkan hantaman asteorid di Mars juga menyebabkan lubang kawah selebar 3,9 meter.

Planet Aktif

Perkiraan 200 hantaman asteroid itu didasarkan pada identifikasi 248 kawah baru Mars dalam satu dekade terakhir oleh pesawat ruang angkasa NASA yang mengorbit di planet itu sejak 2006,  Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. 

"Menarik untuk menemukan kawah baru tersebut segera setelah itu terbentuk," kata Peneliti Ingird Daubar dari University of Arizona, Tucson, AS.

"Itu mengingatkan Anda, Mars adalah planet aktif dan kita dapat mempelajari proses yang terjadi hari ini," ujar Daubar.

Kamera pesawat Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) berhasil memotret gambar detail kawah segar pada situs yang sebelumnya sudah diambil oleh kamera pesawat lain yang mempelajari Mars.

Untuk usia kawah, peneliti menggunakan metode yang sama, termasuk beberapa kemungkinan hasil dari perubahan iklim Mars.

Berdasarkan studi kawah dan batuan bulan yang dikumpulkan astronot Apollo NASA, ilmuwan telah menghitung hanya ada tiga sampai 10 dampak setiap tahun di planet merah itu.

"Mars kini memiliki tingkat kawah yang paling dikenali dalam tata surya," kata peneliti utama HiRISE, Alfred McEwen.

Penelitian itu secara detail dimuat dalam Jurnal Icarus edisi bulan ini.

Ericsson Wins Saudi Network Upgrade Contract

Saudi Arabia's Etihad Etisalat, Mobily has selected Ericsson to provide EPC networks in the western region of the Kingdom, boosting the mobile data network router capacity four-fold.

As part of the agreement, Ericsson will upgrade the EPC network with the Evolved Packet Gateway based on the SSR 8000 family to support LTE and prepare the network for Voice over LTE (VoLTE).

As part of the agreement, Ericsson will also provide systems integration, design and managed services, extending the scope of the existing managed services partnership with Mobily, which started in 2005.

To date, Ericsson has taken 51 contracts for the SSR 8000 family of Smart Service Routers, which is one of the key components of its 4G IP network vision.

5 things you didn’t know about wireless charging

 Twenty years ago the mere thought of wireless telephones was enough to make us raise our eyebrows; now, we can even ditch the cables we use to charge them. And because the highest failure rate in mobile equipment tends to be the fraying and kinked power cord, this is very good news.

While it’s not yet mainstream, you probably already know that smartphones like the Nokia Lumia 820 and the Nokia Lumia 920 are the wireless charging trailblazers. However, there’s plenty more to learn about this futuristic tech. 

One. Wireless charging works by using induction – the same basic principle that Michael Faraday discovered way back in 1831. An electrical current in one part of the charger creates a magnetic field, which in turn creates a voltage – and that voltage powers your phone, wire-free! You simply place your phone on top of the charging unit, just like, with an induction cooker, you place your pan on the hob. Simple!

Two. Like any other emergent tech, there are competing systems. Nokia has adopted the Qi standard, developed by the Wireless Power Consortium, a cooperation of worldwide companies that aims to create a proprietary standard for wireless charging technology that will eventually operate worldwide. ‘Qi’ comes from the Chinese concept of energy flow in traditional medicine – pretty appropriate, we think!

Three. You won’t always have to bring your charging pad with you. Nokia, for instance, has teamed up with Virgin Atlantic and Coffee Bean And Tea Leaf, which means that when you’re the London Heathrow Clubhouse lounge, or in a Coffee Bean café, you’ll be able to make use of their table-top charging stations while you relax. Now that’s twenty-first century customer service if ever we saw it.

Four. While many manufacturers are getting in on the act, Nokia aims to be the best of the bunch, which is why it increased the active charging area to over 80 per cent on the wireless charging plate. 

Five. Last but by no means least, there’s already a ton of wireless charging accessories available. Harga BlackBerry Q10 Mulai Terungkap

KOMPAS.com - Ketersediaan dan informasi harga BlackBerry Q10, perangkat berbasis OS BlackBerry 10 yang dilengkapi keyboard QWERTY, masih menjadi misteri. Hingga beberapa hari lalu beredar kabar baru mengenai smartphone ini.

Seperti dilaporkan oleh Unwired Review, BlackBerry Q10 sudah bisa dipesan (pre-order) melalui dua retailer online Unlocked Mobiles dan Clove. Harganya? 530 poundsterling atau sekitar Rp 7,9 juta untuk BlackBerry Q10 versi unlocked.

BlackBerry sendiri belum merilis keterangan berapa persisnya harga resmi Q10.

Unlocked Mobiles menyebut stok BlackBerry Q10 diperkirakan mulai tersedia pada 26 April, sementara Clove menyebutkan "akhir April". Boleh jadi Inggris bakal menjadi salah satu negara pertama yang menerima smartphone ini, seperti pada saat rilis Z10 beberapa waktu lalu.

Yang perlu dicatat, harga barang-barang elektronik di Inggris rata-rata memang lebih mahal dibandingkan Indonesia dikarenakan pajak yang besar. Harga BlackBerry Z10 di negara itu, misalnya, mencapai 525 pounsterling atau sekitar Rp 7,8 juta,
