5 things you didn’t know about wireless charging

Nokia Lumia 820 on the wireless charging plate
Twenty years ago the mere thought of wireless telephones was enough to make us raise our eyebrows; now, we can even ditch the cables we use to charge them. And because the highest failure rate in mobile equipment tends to be the fraying and kinked power cord, this is very good news.
While it’s not yet mainstream, you probably already know that smartphones like the Nokia Lumia 820 and the Nokia Lumia 920 are the wireless charging trailblazers. However, there’s plenty more to learn about this futuristic tech.
One. Wireless charging works by using induction – the same basic principle that Michael Faraday discovered way back in 1831. An electrical current in one part of the charger creates a magnetic field, which in turn creates a voltage – and that voltage powers your phone, wire-free! You simply place your phone on top of the charging unit, just like, with an induction cooker, you place your pan on the hob. Simple!

Two. Like any other emergent tech, there are competing systems. Nokia has adopted the Qi standard, developed by the Wireless Power Consortium, a cooperation of worldwide companies that aims to create a proprietary standard for wireless charging technology that will eventually operate worldwide. ‘Qi’ comes from the Chinese concept of energy flow in traditional medicine – pretty appropriate, we think!

Three. You won’t always have to bring your charging pad with you. Nokia, for instance, has teamed up with Virgin Atlantic and Coffee Bean And Tea Leaf, which means that when you’re the London Heathrow Clubhouse lounge, or in a Coffee Bean cafĂ©, you’ll be able to make use of their table-top charging stations while you relax. Now that’s twenty-first century customer service if ever we saw it.

Four. While many manufacturers are getting in on the act, Nokia aims to be the best of the bunch, which is why it increased the active charging area to over 80 per cent on the wireless charging plate.

Five. Last but by no means least, there’s already a ton of wireless charging accessories available. The Nokia Wireless Charging Pillow by Fatboy is for when your hard-working phone fancies a well-deserved lie-down – and the Nokia Wireless Charging Stand, is ideal for when you want to charge up whilst on video calls. We’re also very fond of the JBL PowerUp Wireless Charging Speaker for Nokia, which will charge your phone as you’re listening to your favourite tunes.
As you’ve probably guessed we’re massive fans of the wireless way, but what do you think? Does it herald the start of a brave new wire-free world or is it just an electric flash in the pan?

Harga BlackBerry Q10 Mulai Terungkap

BlackBerry sendiri belum merilis keterangan berapa persisnya harga resmi Q10.

Tambahan 3G, Telkomsel ingin Wujudkan Broadband City

BB Z10 Siap Tantang iPhone-Android di AS

BlackBerry Z10

Kami tentu saja ingin mengambil kembali pangsa pasar," kata CEO BlackBerry Thorsten Heins seperti dikutip Bloomberg.com.

Huawei introduces 6.1-inch smartphone

Monica Chen, Taipei; Jackie Chang, DIGITIMES [Friday 22 March 2013]
The line between smartphones and tablets have been blurred and firms such as Huawei, Asustek Computer, and Samsung Electronics hope to capture the new business opporutnity by introducing large-size smartphones and tablets with call functions.
China-based Huawei introduced the new 6.1-inch quad-core Android smartphone, Ascend Mate, on March 21. The retail price is set at a lower-than-expected CNY2,688/unit (US$432/unit). The thickness of the product is 9.9mm. According to Huawei, Ascend Mate adopts a 6.1-inch 720p touch screen and a 1.5GHz HiSilicon K3V2 quad-core processor.
Taiwan-based Asustek has introduced the 7-inch FonePad by adding the 3G call function. Consumers can insert the SIM card and use the tablet as a smartphone. The retail price of the product is NT$8,990/unit (US$301/unit).
South Korea-based Samsung Electronics recently launched the 8-inch Galaxy Note 8.0 with Exynos 4412 (1.6GHz) quad-core processor and 2GB RAM. Consumers have a choice of 16GB or 32GB ROM. The product has call functions and 4G LTE networking features, representing a cross-over between smartphones and tablets.
Market observers have been divided on the impact of large-size smartphones on tablets. Handset makers believe the 5.5-inch screen is the limit for handsets and any smartphone/tablet product larger than that belongs to a niche market.
Handset makers added that in the past, consumers distinguished handset and tablet as two different product lines and the main differences were the screen sizes and call functions. However, Samsung broke the barrier and introduced the 5- and 5.5-inch products. In addition, sales of these products have been strong.
